Presentation title: Safety risks in the supply chain – lessons from defence

Biography:

Dom Barraclough is a Chartered Engineer (Eur Ing) and Fellow of IMechE, IET, IAgrE, and IOM3. He leads Finch and is active in Tautus (mining safety) and LEAPS (leisure safety). Starting as an agricultural fitter, he progressed to an MSc in mechatronics and holds an MBA with Distinction from Aston (his research was in motivation).

Dom has nearly 40 years’ industrial experience across sectors and supply chains including automotive, agriculture, food, mining, and construction, with expertise in mechanical and electrical systems. He’s a named inventor on three patents and has been instructed in over 200 expert witness cases, including fatalities, fraud, and international commercial arbitrations. He’s given evidence in court including the TCC High Court and internationally. Dom chairs the National SMIM Committee and is a professional registration assessor and awards judge.

An endurance enthusiast, he’s completed multiple marathons, obstacle races, and long distance cycling challenges, and is now training for Ironman 70.3 Alcudia (2027) and Outlaw (2026), he is one of the founders of MineCycle 2026 from Aberdeen Minerals to the UK Mining Conference in Cornwall and is riding in July for a defence charity from Stirling to Farnborough.
