Drax Power Ltd

Presentation title: Planning for Success

Biography:

After leaving college, Richard took on the management of the family farm. As with many rural businesses, diversification became essential, prompting Richard to gain his HGV licence while continuing to support seasonal farm operations. Alongside this, he worked evening shifts at Hygena, now Howdens where he developed a broad experience across production, warehousing, transport, and while gaining experience and qualifications with the environment and safety team.

In early 2008, Richard joined Drax, progressing to the role of Landfill and Reclaim Supervisor CIWM, while also continuing to support the day-to-day management of coal stocks and the wider transition away from coal. He now serves as Contracts Delivery Lead, responsible for overseeing the delivery, performance, and compliance of key operational contracts.

Anecdote for moderator use only

I played rugby union for Bishop Burton College, The York Unicorns, and my local club Goole RUFC for many years. I was a key member of the Goole team that once celebrated a remarkable win at the Reading 7s tournament by winning the tournament plate, while also completing a famous win over a team called Harlequins RUFC who originate from Richmond in London.
